Sun Puzzles Part II
* Shine On: This week Fred Williams and Doug McBurney conclude their review of the book "Sun Puzzles" by Ellen McHenry discussing the history of plasma & electric sun - theory & experiments; and three more puzzles.
* Pioneers of Plasma: Find out how Kristian Birkeland was proven so correct about charged particles, related magnetic fields, and the Aurora Borealis that the electrical currents flowing along magnetic fields are now called "Birkeland Currents." Then Hans Alfvén! (who provided a framework for magnetohydrodynamics that won him the Nobel Prize) described the behavior of plasma interacting with magnetic fields. This built on the work of another Nobel Prize winner, Irving Langmuir, (who coined the term "plasma") and whose experiments demonstrated its double layer nature. Hear how Alfven demonstrated how plasma circuits, electric currents, and voltage flows explain all kinds of solar phenomena. "Sun Puzzles" author Ellen McHenry then closes the loop with how Ralph Jürgens and Barry Setterfield cite the work of the Plasma Pioneers in their objections to the solar nuclear fusion model popularized by Sir Arthur Eddington.
* Puzzle #4 - Slow Ride: Hear all about the observation of two solar winds: one slow and one fast; and how charged particles may actually be escaping from the sun, (similar to water simultaneously overtopping and leaking from the bottom of a dam), and how the flow from the "leak" at the bottom may explain the slow solar wind.
* Puzzle #5 - Fast Way: Why would the solar wind accelerate after it leaves the sun like water overtopping a dam and rushing downhill? Find out how the electric/plasma model fills the bill, while nuclear fusion fails to deliver the goods.
* Puzzle #6 - Still of the Night: In May of 1999 the volume of solar wind dropped by more than 95% for about two days. Why? While a nuclear fusion explanation is elusive, an electric sun's movement through the electrically active universe could plausibly affect the escape of charged particles in the way we observed back in '99.
* Plasma & Creation? Hear how plasma filaments, z-pinch and plasmoids (which have all been demonstrated in the laboratory) could very well help explain how God created such a massive universe in just six days.
* Sun Puzzles: Check out another one of Ellen McHenry's intriguing and enlightening books: Sun Puzzles - on all the curious facts about the Sun that point to an electric, (and not a nuclear) sun.
* In The Beginning: Order your 9th edition of Walt Brown's amazing, enlightening, biblically sound book explaining why Earth (and the solar system) look the way they do!
* Jesus Light & Design: Get the first in our series of Real Science Radio Teaching Books, all about how light and design point to Jesus Christ as the Creator and Savior of the world.
* Not So: Pick up a copy or two of RSR's 2nd in our series of Real Science Radio Teaching Books: "The List of Not So Old Things" detailing an ever growing list of "not so old things" compiled by Fred and Bob Enyart.
