Getting to the Root of the Matter

* Getting to the Root with a Deist: In this special edition of Real Science Radio, Bob Enyart talks with classical deist Lewis Loflin of BristolBlog.com. Lewis believes that Old Testament teaching that God will judge human beings for their immorality, but:
- he rejects a literal interpretation of the Genesis creation days as 24 hour periods
- he rejects that Genesis teaches that the earth is only thousands of years old
- he rejects the Genesis account of a global flood.
So Bob and Lewis agree to begin by discussing the age of the earth, and then on another show, discuss the New Testament and the Resurrection of Jesus Christ!

Genesis 1:1Genesis 1:1* "I'll See Your One Expert, and Raise You Thirty": Lewis mentions a Hebrew scholar who believes the text of Genesis does not indicate a young earth. So Bob said, "Lewis, I see your expert, and raise you thirty." And then Bob quoted the  Professor of Hebrew at Oxford, James Barr, who wrote in 1984, “so far as I know, there is no professor of Hebrew or Old Testament at any world-class university who does not believe that the writer(s) of Genesis 1-11 intended to convey to their readers the ideas that: the figures contained in the Genesis genealogies provided by simple addition a chronology from the beginning of the world up to later stages in the biblical story.”

RSR: 2011's List of Not So Old Things

Annual Tradition: We update this every year, so for the latest, just visit realscienceradio.com/list.

* RSF's 2011 LIST OF NOT SO OLD THINGS: Real Science Friday co-hosts Fred Williams and Bob Enyart observe their annual tradition by updating their classic List of Not So Old Things! [The most up-to-date version of this is always available at KGOV.com/list.] This growing list of scientific observations contains items that old-earthers were unprepared for, and many other items that even old-earth geologists now admit did not form over millions of years, but rapidly. Many of these scientific finds demand a re-evaluation of supposed million-year ages:

* "65-million" Year Old T. rex Soft Tissue
: Montana State University found soft tissue in a supposedly 65-million year old Tyrannosaurus Rex thighbone, original biological material that even remained soft and flexible with transparent blood vessels containing red blood cells!  See photos here and at MS-NBC, an enlarged photo, original 2007 Nat'l Geographic report, 2009 Nat'l Geo. confirmation, the excavation site in Montana, and a forum discussion.

Atheist Staks Rosch on BEL

* Atheist Staks Rosch of DangerousTalk.net: talks with Bob about morality and God. Bob posted his pre-show notes, even though they're not edited for publication, below for those interested. This program is a special edition of Real Science Radio.

Dog barking* On Origin of Language: Staks rejects the Bible's account of God as the originator of languages and apparently believes the evolutionary story of its origin and offered this as a challenge to which Bob referred to his recent Real Science Radio program on the Origin of Language showing for example that world-renowned linguists who are evolutionists have proved Darwin wrong in his belief that some languages are primitive, and that animal barks and grunts can be shown to be steps toward language, and that evidence of language evolution would exist. Instead, Bob and Fred Williams present the conclusions of some of the world's leading linguists such as Edward Sapir and MIT's Noam Chomsky that primitive languages do not exist and no evidence of the evolution of language has been found! Human language appears suddenly in human history and as such, is another great argument against evolution and in favor of the Bible account of creation.

RSR: Dawkins Proves a Creationist Right!

* BEL Audio from 1997 Confirmed Now By Richard Dawkins: Real Science Friday co-hosts Fred Williams and Bob Enyart play audio from an old Bob Enyart Live program in which Bob claimed that in Richard Dawkins' books, he just assumed evolution and he didn't give evidence. A dozen years later, Dawkins admits that in all of his previous books, he assumed, but did not provide evidence. That vindicates Bob Enyart's direct statement of a 1997 caller who was recommending that Bob read Dawkins (which Bob had done, but which the caller had not).

RSR: Now Sponges are 70% Human :)

* Real Science Radio Focuses its Beetle Eye on Sponges: Co-hosts Fred Williams with Creation Research Society, and Bob Enyart, on this episode of Real Science Radio draw from the January 2011 issue of Creation magazine to discuss:

* If Chimps are 95% Human, Sponges are 70%: The sequencing of the Great Barrier Reef sponge genome shows, according to the co-author's interview with AFP in Scientists find sea sponges share human genes, "that sea sponges share almost 70 percent of human genes!" The study, reported in the peer-reviewed journal Nature, Sponge genome goes deep, goes beyond it's factual findings of human-to-sponge overlap to speculate on a period of evolution after sponges that, "Nearly one-third of the genetic alterations that distinguish humans from their last common ancestor with single-celled organisms took place during this period."

* 20,500 Human Genes; 18,000 Sponge Genes: While humans have about 20,500 genes and simple worms have 20,000, it turns out that sponges, according to Nature, have "more than 18,000 individual genes." Thus "the sponge genome represents a diverse toolkit." Exactly says RSR! As Nature reports, "according to Douglas Erwin, a palaeobiologist at the Smithsonian, such complexity indicates that sponges must have descended from a more advanced ancestor than previously suspected. 'This flies in the face of what we think of early metazoan evolution,' says Erwin."

So, What's This Doing In There? Nature also says about sponge DNA: "The genome also includes analogues of genes that, in organisms with a neuromuscular system, code for muscle tissue and neurons." Those Darwinists who hold to the circular logic of methodological naturalism do not have the intellectual liberty to consider that perhaps the Intelligent Designer devised a genetic toolbox from which He could pull out of the same basic blueprint tools for making sponges, kangaroos, and people.

RSR Takes On Nature's 15 Gems

* Real Science Radio Takes On Nature Magazine's 15 Gems of Evolution: Co-hosts Fred Williams with Creation Research Society, and Bob Enyart, on this episode of Real Science Radio talk through all fifteen of Nature magazine's list of their claimed strong evidences for evolution. And thanks to Casey Luskin for his podcasts at ID The Future with his great rebuttal of the 15 gems!

RSR: Gorillas, Chimps, Baboons, Ann Gibbons

and gibbons* Welcome to the REAL Science Friday: covering symbiotic relationships, diatoms, snowflakes, amazing water molecules, the relationship between faith and reason, and the latest on Mitochondrial Eve! Co-hosts Fred Williams with Creation Research Society, and Bob Enyart, on this episode of Real Science Radio draw from the latest Answers magazine to discuss symbiosis including the relationships between Yucca moths and plants, clown fish and sea anemones, and cleaning fish and sharks!

* Mitochondrial Eve: Bob and Fred also review Ann Gibbon's 6,000-year age for Mitochondrial Eve, the mother from whom all human beings have descended, bringing that saga up-to-date. Here's how it goes. By admittedly including chimpanzee DNA among their data, evolutionists initially calculated that Mitochondrial Eve, the one woman from whom all living humans have descended, lived as long ago as 200,000 years. But in 1998, as widely reported including by Science magazine, dropping the chimp data and using actual human mutation rates, "Eve... the mother of all living" (Gen. 3:20), was now dated as only six thousand years old! See Ann Gibbon's Science article, "Calibrating the Mitochondrial Clock," the journal Nature, Creation.com's "A shrinking date for Eve," and Walt Brown's assessment. Expectedly, evolutionists have found a way to reject their own unbiased finding (the conclusion contrary to their self-interest) by returning to their original method of using circular reasoning, as reported in the American Journal of Human Genetics, "calibrating against recent evidence for the divergence time of humans and chimpanzees," to reset their mitochondrial clock back to 200,000 years. (See also Bob's article, Why Was Canaan Cursed?)

RSR: Dinosaur Fossils Swimming in Clams

dinosaur & clam excavation site* Why were Dinosaurs Buried with Clams? Co-hosts Fred Williams with Creation Research Society, and Bob Enyart, on this episode of Real Science Friday draw from a recent news report that Bob and Cheryl noticed while in traveling in the Rocky Mountains with their three youngest boys. An unexpected fossil dig at Snowmass is producing a jumble of mammoth, mastodon, Ice Age bison, and giant ground sloth! And clams. Yes, clams. Captain Kirk's Denver Museum of Nature and Science counted (on one hand) the number of animal species excavated in Snowmass, but they missed the number by one. Not surprisingly, they ignored the lowly clam, as evolutionists like to downplay the clams (many fully articulated showing rapid burial) that are often found with dinosaur fossils and the remains of other land animals). For example, Dinosaur National Monument could be called Clam National Monument, since more clams are found there than dinosaurs. So, what were all those dinosaurs (including a nearby Allosaur excavated by a home-school family) doing swimming with so many clams?

* Swinging Gibbons: Bob and Fred also talk about the latest Answers magazine on swinging Gibbons, and tonight's showing at Rocky Mountain Creation Fellowship of Darwin's Dilemma taking the Cambrian Explosion to it's logical, microbiological conclusion! (You can order this excellent DVD by calling 1-800-8Enyart.)

RSR: Fruit flies have gyroscope function

Fruit fly* Junk like Enzymes and Gyros: Co-hosts Fred Williams with Creation Research Society, and Bob Enyart, on this episode of Real Science Friday draw from listener email, Creation Matters, and the latest issue of Creation magazine to discuss:
- Genetic studies that find 23,000 regulatory regions within "junk DNA" Ha!
- Discover magazine astronomer blogger Phil Plait was unfair to Bob and Fred :(
- Dogs sniffing through each nostril independently, and that's one reason why they're such good trackers
- Biblical creationist enzyme expert Dr. Matti Leisola who is cited 1,300 times in the scientific literature
- Fruit flies recover from wind disturbances by returning to their original heading in a tenth of a second

Spike Psarris on Astronomer Phil Plait & Evolution

* Discover Magazine's Astronomer Now Takes A Shot at Real Science Radio...

* Evolutionary Astronomers & the Funny Phil Plait Spat: We've already reported that Discover magazine's astronomer, evolutionist Phil Plait, accused Spike Psarris of being deceptive because he uses the term "evolution" to describe naturalistic astronomy for, as Plait wrote, "evolution has nothing to do with astronomy." (Of course stellar nucleosynthesis is also called chemical evolution, but even that theory is in crisis. See below.) Now Plait has also criticized Real Science Radio for our report on the spat, which included this comment: "Spike knocks it out of the park by showing the covers of nine astronomy texts, each one with the word evolution in their titles, such as Solar System Evolution." Psarris and Enyart also discuss the circular reasoning of atheists trying to account for the origin of the universe and life on earth.

* Check Out RSR's Big Bang Video

* Father of the Big Bang Theory Talked "Evolution": The terminology which Plait himself uses, but objects to from creationists, goes back to the birth of the big bang theory. In his brief paper that announced his big bang theory in the May 1931 issue of Nature paper, he wrote, "Clearly the initial quantum could not conceal in itself the whole course of evolution..." And in September of 1931, because of challenges with "stellar evolution" Lemaître said to the British Association, "We want a 'fireworks' theory of evolution." But, "The last two thousands million years are slow evolution..." [Lemaître scored public relations points by applying the slow and gradual geological uniformitarian mindset to cosmology.] "The evolution of the world can be compared to a display of fireworks that has just ended... we try to recall the vanishing brilliance of the origin of the worlds." And in Georges Lemaître's 1951 book, The Primeval Atom, "Evolution: The Evolution of Stars. The idea of evolution has played an important role..."

* Father of Star Formation Theory Talked "Evolution": 1931 Report of the British Association for the Advancement of Science, The Evolution of the Universe, "We are, of course, discussing only the physical universe. ... The physical universe never has any choice--it must inevitably move along a single road to a predestined end. What we are calling evolution is like the rolling of a train along a single-track line, with no junctions of any kind." -James Jeans, and present were de Sitter, Eddington, Lemaître, et al.

* Then There's the Black Hole "Missing Links": Thousands of scholarly papers use the evolutionary "missing link" terminology to describe the tendency for black holes to be either up to about 100 solar masses, or over 100,000 solar masses. (In 2018, a particular black hole was proposed as a candidate for spanning this gap, then this one was proposed in 2019.) This problem is not unlike the evolutionary problem of missing links of organisms with more than a single cell and fewer than any of the known smallest multicellular organisms, and it's also like the inability of secular physicists to explain the origin of the majority of the elements of the periodic table, those above iron, as explained at rsr.org/bb#supernova.

* RSR with Spike Psarris: Bob Enyart interviews the host of the stunning video, What You Aren't Being Told About Astronomy, Spike Psarris of Creation Astronomy. Spike is an engineer formerly with the U.S. military space program.

Get the Spike Psarris video What You Aren't Being Told About Astronomy and his great Vol. II, on Our Created Stars and Galaxies!

* Analyzing the Great Works of Literature -- Via Spelling: Consider Phil Plait's summary explanation for biological evolution, which allegedly generated all of life's diversity. Plait claimed that the origin and diversification of species (genus, family, order, phylum, etc.) that is, neo-Darwinian evolution, is all about a "change in frequency of alleles", or, variations in genes. (This same claim arose when RSR debated atheist AronRa.) This "change in the frequency of alleles" explanation of life's diversity is as insufficient an approach to understanding life as it would be to attempt to comprehend the evolution in the great works of literature by focusing on spelling variations.

*  One Dead Protein: Bob Enyart points out that even if a trillion universes all pulled together to overcome the odds of a protein forming and folding by chance, and natural processes produced the first protein... so what? All you'd have is a single, non-living protein.

An extinct Spikepsarris

* Stephen Hawking's Circular Reasoning Exposed: (not as though that was difficult however) Hawking claims that in the Big Bang the laws of physics produced the universe, even though the Big Bang claims those laws did not exist prior to the Big Bang. And Hawking says, for example, that the matter of the universe came from energy borrowed from the gravitational energy of the universe, to which Enyart asks, "What universe?" If you're explaining the origin of the universe, you cannot appeal to the universe itself. Note also our page, rsr.org/stephen-hawkings-irrational-fears, where we record his phobias, with his pretty wild suggestions which include:
- that people should avoid talking to aliens who are likely to be mean
- that we should beware of danger from "highly intelligent machines", forgetting perhaps that we call it "artificial" because machines have no intelligence and even no awareness
- that if he has any credibility, then we too would fear the Higgs Boson (really), and
- that mankind should go to the Moon (daytime temperature over 200 degrees, 107 C) to escape global warming.
