Theology Thursday

Theology Thursday

Welcome to Theology Thursday: We present select Bible studies and sermons from Pastor Bob Enyart of Denver Bible Church teaching from Scripture that:
- God is eternally free, inexhaustibly creative, and has existed from everlasting
- His main biblical attributes? He is living, personal, relational, good, and loving
- Proper hermeneutics flow not from Greek and Latin philosophy but from the primary biblical attributes of God
- The Bible explicitly affirms marriage and condemns moral relativism and all immorality including homosexuality
- As God is a person and created us in His likeness He expects us to stand for the personhood of the unborn
- God presents the Gospel of Jesus Christ, based on the death penalty, in Bible's context of criminal justice
- The Bible is not a science text (for they have to be corrected all the time) but instead is scientifically accurate. Enjoy!

Are All Sins Equal?

Read Bob Enyart's life's work -- The Plot: The overview of the Bible is the KEY to its details!* Which of the Following Verses Teach that All Sins are NOT Equal? While answering that question, also answer this question: Who spoke most of the Bible verses which most clearly teach that not all sins are equal?

See this as a quiz
in Bob's Writings at kgov.com/all-sins

- Jesus answered Pilate: "the one who delivered Me to you has the greater sin." John 19:11

 - You who judged your sisters, bear your own shame also, because the sins which you committed were more abominable than theirs..." Ezekiel 16:51-52

- "But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were drowned in the depth of the sea." –Jesus, Mat. 18:6  [That is, it would be worse for that one than for the little one whom he tempted to sin.]

- "[Some] shall be beaten with many stripes.  But [some] shall be beaten with few…  For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required... I came to send fire [judgment] on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled!" -Jesus, Luke 12:47, 49

- "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you devour widows' houses, and for a pretense make long prayers. Therefore you will receive greater condemnation." -Jesus, Mat. 23:14

- "Woe to you, scribes… you will receive greater condemnation." -Jesus, Mat. 23:14

- "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithe [but] have neglected the weightier matters of the law…" -Jesus, Mat. 23:23

- "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel land and sea to win one proselyte, and when he is won, you make him twice as much a son of hell as yourselves." -Jesus, Mat. 23:15

- "And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye’; and look, a plank is in your own eye? Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye." -Jesus, Mat. 7:3-5

- "Bethsaida… it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the day of judgment than for you.  And you, Capernaum… it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment than for you." -Jesus, Mat. 11:21-24

- "In the measure that she glorified herself and lived luxuriously, in the same measure give her torment and sorrow…" Revelation 18:7

- "teachers… shall receive a stricter judgment." James 3:1

The Romans Road

Read Bob Enyart's life's work -- The Plot: The overview of the Bible is the KEY to its details!* The Bible Gets Easier to Understand: This book is Bob Enyart's life's work. Apparent contradictions plague many Bible students. In The Plot, Enyart set out to demonstrate how hundreds of such contradictions disappear when the reader applies the big picture of the Bible to its details. Tunnel vision focuses so narrowly on a problem that the solution often lies just out of view. As the pastor of Denver Bible Church, Bob Enyart teaches Christians how to use the whole counsel of God to understand the plot of the Bible and solve biblical mysteries. As with all of our BEL resources, The Plot comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee. And as we become proficient in the big picture, that is, the overview of the story of the Bible, then countless details, including as one small example, about the cities of refuge, become increasingly clear!

* The Plot on Audio: Far better than an audio book, for those who prefer to listen (while they walk, job, drive, or work) rather than reading, you can listen to Bob Enyart teach through the fascinating topics in his book in this Plot Audio Set.

* The Plot Boys: For kids ages eleven and up (and their parents :), check out The Plot Boys! Bob Enyart recorded these wonderful programs with two young Bible students, Josh and Stephen, ages 11 and 12, both of whom are being used of God to promote a Christian, biblical worldview! (There's enough material in The Plot Boys for a home-school family to listen to these studies for an entire year's Bible course.

Authority in the New Testament

Those Who've Never Heard Pt 2

We think you'll love this verse-by-verse study of the book of Romans...* The Unsolicited -- What of those Who've Never Heard: After 30 years of knowing he was not ready to teach a Bible study on the book of Romans, the day finally came when Bob Enyart, believing that with God's help and blessing, he would be able to present a valuable verse by verse study of the world's greatest theological treatise: The Book of Romans. In chapter two, Paul addresses one of the most fascinating topics in evangelism: How does God treat those who have never heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ?

* Part I: Last week's Theology Thursday program presented the beginning of this Romans chapter two study.

* God Holds Us Accountable for What We Know: But does God hold people accountable for what they do not know? Jesus said, "that servant who knew his master’s will, and did not... do according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. But he who did not know, yet committed things deserving of stripes, shall be beaten with few. For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required..." (Luke 12:47-48). For of course, "there is no partiality with God" (Rom. 2:11).

The Rightly Divided Dietary Law

Bob Enyart's life's work: The Plot* What was Wrong with Garments of Mixed Fabrics? The teaching in today's program also appears in Bob's life's work, The Plot, which notes that God forbade the Israelites from wearing clothes with mixed fabrics:

"You shall not wear a garment of different sorts, such as wool and linen mixed together." Deut. 22:11

Like many of the purely symbolic ordinances in Scripture, this symbol illustrated Man's need for God to cover his spiritual nakedness. Thus every Israelite had to wear pure garments, made from only one material. Not realizing that Bible writers used the concept of clothing symbolically (e.g., Ps. 104:2; 109:17?19; 132:9, 16, 18), someone might conclude that mixing two fabrics together is inherently immoral. A misguided believer today might go to great lengths to keep all fabrics separated just as Kosher Jews have taken unnecessary and extreme measures separating meat and dairy products. Man does not help God by expanding upon His commands (Gen. 2:17; 3:3; Col. 2:23). God said, "You shall not boil a young goat in its mother's milk" (Ex. 34:26) so men invent a food system wherein they cannot store cheese in the same refrigerator as beef nor use the same utensils to handle both. The greater harm with such mistakes lies not in the wasted effort, but in that such contrived laws become a distraction from God and from His priorities.

For as the Apostle Paul wrote, obeying such "self-imposed" religious rules provides, "no value against the indulgence of the flesh." For:

These things indeed have an appearance of wisdom in self-imposed religion, false humility, and neglect of the body, but are of no value against the indulgence of the flesh. Col. 2:23

Ultimately, Jesus Christ is our "covering", so to point to His innocence, sinlessness, and purity, the entire nation of Israel was to cloth itself only in pure garments.

The Sabbath is a What?

Bob Enyart's life's work: The Plot* Enjoy this Survey of the Bible's Teaching on the Sabbath: Bob Enyart directly addresses whether or not God requires people today to keep the Sabbath.

Some Christians, including Seventh Day Adventists and some Messianic Jews, teach that Christians should remember the Sabbath, rest, and not work on that day. In this program Bob presents the reasons why millions of Christians believe that the Bible teaches that God does not want today's Body of Christ (the Church) to keep the Sabbath.

BEL Flashback: Listen to Bob debate keeping the Sabbath with a Seventh Day Adventist caller.

No Divorce, said Jesus, Except for Immorality

* A Divorced Man Tells Bob: On our DVD, The Bible, Divorce & Remarriage, a divorced man tells Bob that he wants to remarry but that his pastor refuses to perform the ceremony, claiming God forbids it. Is the pastor correct? In this video, Bob reads super secret Bible passages on divorce and remarriage which very few Christians realize exist. Is that really in my Bible? Check it out!

* A Pastor's Kid from Ohio: An adult son of an associate pastor from Ohio thanked us here at KGOV for making available our DVD, The Bible, Divorce & Remarriage, saying that he loves Bob's Divorce and Remarriage DVD, and was amazed at the rarely considered Bible verses it presents!

* Related: The Biblical Role of Government in Marriage
Who has the authority to grant permission for people to marry? Some claim that only the church has authority to preside over weddings. Yet in modern times most people willingly submit to the government as the official certifier of marriage. Others believe that the authority to marry lies solely with the two individuals involved. (Our article The Bible and Polygamy presents the prohibition of polygamy in New Testament times.) Consider arguments for and against each of these three ideas on authority regarding marriage. more...
