BEL Fires Canon Across the Bow

* History Buff Shoots Cannonball Through Neighbor's Wall: Really. Bob Enyart and Doug McBurney discuss the boundary between weapons of self-defense, which God authorizes for individuals, and weapons of national defense, including missiles, tanks, warships, nuclear submarines, weapons of mass destruction, etc., which nations can rightly use to defend themselves.

Post-show Notes: In 2002 historian Joyce Lee Malcolm wrote that "New York City's homicide rate has been at least five times higher than London's for two hundred years. For most of that time, there were no serious firearm restrictions in either city."

* BEL's Recurring Gun Rights Points: Regarding three serious problems with America's gun-rights advocates...
- We shouldn't use the phrase, "second amendment rights", unless we want to lose them. The masses largely don't know that rights come from our Creator, and with conservatives saying, millions of times repeating like mindless drones, "Our second amendment rights", "Our first amendment rights", etc., relentlessly, we are unwittingly brainwashing people to believe that rights come from the government. And, because the constitution can be amended, your "second amendment" rights can be amended away, whereas our God-given rights cannot be taken away. (To no avail Bob Enyart has discussed this with some of America's most famous gun rights advocates.)
- All gun rights activists are wrong when they say that the U.S. Supreme Court hasn't yet weighed in on whether the second amendment's "right of the people" to bear arms applies to citizens or only to militias. In an 1857 majority opinion written by the chief justice, Roger B. Taney enumerated some of the rights belonging to those "recognised as citizens in any one State of the Union, the right to enter every other State whenever they pleased, ...the full liberty of speech in public and in private... to hold public meetings upon political affairs, and to keep and carry arms wherever they went." Bob Enyart had the honor of writing the American Right To Life article on this decision and you can find there this excerpt and the link to the opinion at AmericanRTL.org/dred#guns.
- It is Christian fake news to claim that Jesus in Luke 22 advocated owning weapons. Yes, of course Jesus would fully support the Scripture's affirmation of the right to bear arms. (For example, the Bible documents that it was the wicked government of the Philistines that confiscated weapons, taking away every sword and spear throughout Israel and prohibiting the manufacturing of such weapons, and in Revelation it's not an observation but a command that, "he who kills by the sword must be killed by the sword.") Yet when Jesus said to His apostles, "he who has no sword, let him sell his garment and buy one", the Lord said this not as an affirmation of gun rights but toward fulfilling the prophecy that He would be considered a criminal. "For I say to you that this which is written must still be accomplished in Me: 'And He was numbered with the transgressors'", Christ said, quoting the prophecy in Isaiah 53:12. If a Christian misrepresents Jesus here, as an easy way to make a point, win an argument, or just take a short-cut in convincing another believer, he is like the leftist who doesn't care to make sure his words are correct, or doesn't even care if they are incorrect. No, wait. That's not quite correct. As Jesus' own teaching makes clear, fake-news Christians do more harm than fake-news leftists.

* Brothers Kill Dad, Get New Start
: Really. Legalize abortion and devalue all life.
