What To Do in the Fall

Hear Bob's Sunday Sermon: In a rare broadcast of a Denver Bible Church sermon, Pastor Bob Enyart preaches from Leviticus 23 focusing on the fall feasts of Israel. What is our reasonable service to God? As the year wanes, busy families who work, raise children, and serve the Lord, may be tired and in need of a rest. But as Fall approaches, the personhood signature drive in Colorado is already in full swing. In England in the 1800s there was a saying. Every autumn, the leaves fall from the trees, and Wilberforce introduces an anti-slavery bill. The wealthy William Wilberforce gave his entire life to the Lord and to his neighbor and he died in poverty just four days after a successful procedural vote which led to the liberation of 800,000 British slaves one year later. The first time Wilberforce introduced a bill against slavery in the House of Commons he ended his three-hour speech saying, "Sir, when we think of eternity and the future consequence of all human conduct, what is there in this life that shall make any man contradict the dictates of his conscience, the principles of justice and the law of God!" The motion was defeated. And it was defeated again, and again, and again. Wilberforce introduced that bill eighteen years in a row. Every autumn, the leaves fall from the trees, and Wilberforce introduces an anti-slavery bill. And what of us? We've served the Lord all year. It's the fall. We're exhausted. But as the Scripture says, "Besides the weekly Sabbaths of the LORD, besides your gifts, besides all your vows, and besides all your freewill offerings which you give to the LORD…" (Leviticus 23:38), there is more service to the Lord expected in the Fall. Now, on to collecting those signatures…
