Topic-Child Abuse Case in Los Angeles-Gregory and Deborah Machnick

Bill:     In the Impact segment- Tonight, a programming note, this following story is very graphic and disturbing.  Grady and Deborah Machnick, who live near Los Angeles, are on trial for abusing their teenage son.  Mr. Machnick is an L.A. County Sheriff Sergeant, his wife, an elementary school principal.  According to the D.A., they locked their 14 year old boy out of the house at night, forcing him to sleep on a dog mat.  They also allegedly put dog droppings in his backpack before he went to school.  The child has been removed from the home and a jury is now deliberating the fate of the Machnicks who could get three years in prison each.  Joining us now from Denver is radio talk show host Pastor Bob Enyart.  This is, in my thinking, I would convict.  I would convict here because it is a pattern of sadism.  One other thing is that the mother, Deborah Macnick, took nude photos of the boy, threatened to plaster them on the school walls, if her son didn’t change his behavior.  This can’t be alright with you pastor, can it?

Bob:    Well, why would you ask the question that way Mr. O’Reilly?

Of course, sexual harassment, to threaten someone sexually, whether it is a wife, a girlfriend, or your own child, that you are going to post their naked pictures publicly, that’s criminal.  That is a serious threat, a criminal matter.  Such a thing should be prosecuted.  But what I think you should realize is that because there is a holy war in America against spanking, parents have lost control of their kids.  Their kids are miserable and parents are pushed to try creative things that don’t work.  The tried and true spanking does work.  And when people argue and fight against spanking, they don’t realize that they are hurting kids.

Bill:     Bob, are you telling me though, that making your own child sleep outside on a dog mat is a creative way to discipline a child?

Bob:    I think it is absurd.  But what I am saying is that if you are a part of the Jihad against spanking, then you are pushing parents into desperation where they don’t know what to do to get their kids…

Bill:     I don’t believe that for a second.  I mean look, this guy is a police sergeant.  They are educated people.  They aren’t drug addicted (well they may be but) they are people who are professionals and they…

Bob:    Well, look at college professors and the kids that they raise.  Kids today are miserable…

Bill:     Some…

Bob:    They disrespect their parents…

Bill:     Some, not all!

Bob:    Sure, not all, of course!

Bill:     I know parents…  Look, I don’t hit anybody.  I was a high school teacher; I didn’t loose control over kids and I don’t hit anybody.  And believe me nobody misbehaves in my presence.

Bob:    Mr. O’Reilly, how many documentaries does their have to be of our public high schools where they bring cameras in, and it’s like a zoo.  In Denver we have girls practically…

Bill:     Yeah, it’s because they don’t hold kids accountable for their behavior…

Bob:   practically having sex in the hallways.

Bill:     There is a difference between discipline and sadism.  And I don’t believe…  Look, you think spanking is the cure all.  I don’t.  And let the audience decide.  It’s not a cure all.

Bob:    Spanking works, spanking works…

Bill:     In some cases, it does.  In some cases, it is abusive.

Bob:    No it works… excuse the pun, but it works across the board.

Bill:     No, it doesn’t…

Bob:    Generation after generation raised healthy kids, when you spank them… and if you are part of the Jihad…

Bill:     Pastor, go to any prison in the U.S. and you will find that 90 percent of the violent felons have been beaten as children…

Bob:    You’re wrong!

Bill:     It doesn’t work!

Bob:    You’re wrong!

Bill:     No I’m not!  That’s true!

Bob:    No, you are wrong!

Bill:     That’s true!

Bob:    No, you are wrong!

Bill:     Get the Department Of Corrections report then pastor!

Bob:    You Are Wrong!  There are parents who don’t believe in spanking, they don’t spank their kids and then they fly off the handle because their kids are miserable.

Bill:     Hey Pastor, I get the DOC report on violent felons, don’t tell me I’m wrong.  I’m right!  That report says that 90 percent of violent felons in this country were physically beaten as children.  Don’t give me I’m wrong business….

Bob:    That report was done by people…

Bill:    I deal with facts, not hyperbole.

Bob:    Any study could be written by someone who has an axe to grind, if the author is part of the Jihad against spanking…

Bill:     Now, come on….

Bob:   then they are going to tell you, and you are going to believe…

Bill:     Alright, now let’s get back to these two people.  Now you are on the jury.  These things have been proven beyond a reasonable doubt to you.  What do you sentence these parents to?

Bob:    Whatever is criminal, for example, threatening to put naked pictures of a family member up, doing that is criminal, so therefore if you look at the principal…

Bill:     What do you sentence them to?

Bob:    Well, if you threaten someone with sexual harassment, they should be flogged.  That is what should happen to them.

Bill:     Flogged... I don’t think that is an option in California.

Bob:    Flogged.

Bill:     You are on the jury, flogged…

Bob:    Well you know what, ninety percent of Americans support flogging.  It’s a lot more affective…  [note: Bob took that estimate from two separate news articles about criminal justice museum curators who both commented that patrons overwhelmingly express agreement with the old practice of flogging when they see actual flogging posts and whips.]

Bill:     I am getting that there’s a theme here; I’m getting a physical hurting theme here.

Bob:    Yeah, there’s a theme here.  Here’s the theme.  There is a difference between right and wrong…

Bill:     Yeah…

Bob:    …and liberals, who are against spanking,

Bill:     …Alright…

Bob:   against the death penalty, pro homosexual, pro evolution…  [note: Bob was trying to get O’Reilly’s conservative audience members to realize that Bill is a liberal.]

Bill:     And we are going to flog them all!  Alright Pastor we have got to let you go because we have got more flogging to do here!  Thanks very much.

Bob Enyart Live, heard at KGOV.com (and perhaps in your city), occasionally airs an O Really, O’Reilly segment, in which Bob debunks the notion that O’Reilly is a conservative.  O’Reilly is pro-choice, pro-homosexuality, anti-death penalty, anti-spanking, pro-evolution, pro-pornography, and he rejects the most fundamental of Christian doctrines (like Christ being the only Savior).
