Customer: "Look, matey, I know a dead parrot when I see one, and I'm looking at one right now."
Pet-shop owner: "No, no he's not dead, he's -- he's resting! Remarkable bird, the Norwegian blue, isn't it, aye? Beautiful plumage!"

11:45 a.m., Melrose Hotel, D.C.: It's Day 7 of the Clinton Campaign Death Watch -- a full week since Tim Russert declared the campaign over. ... Clinton is all smiles as she boards the jet, headed to West Virginia, home of what she calls the "hardworking Americans, white Americans." This is Clinton Country.

Customer: "That parrot is definitely deceased, and when I purchased it not half an hour ago, you assured me that its total lack of movement was due to it being tired and [run down] following a prolonged squawk."
Pet-shop owner: "Well, he's, he's, ah, probably pining for the fiords."

2:57 p.m., Charleston, W.Va.: A steep descent brings Clinton's plane to Charleston's Yeager Airport. After an appropriate wait, she steps from the plane and pretends to wave to a crowd of supporters; in fact, she is waving to 10 photographers underneath the airplane's wing. She pretends to spot an old friend in the crowd, points and gives another wave; in fact, she is waving at an aide she had been talking with on the plane minutes earlier.

Customer: (Takes parrot from cage, bangs its head on counter, lets it drop to floor.) "Now, that's what I call a dead parrot."
Pet-shop owner: "No, he's stunned! . . . You stunned him, just as he was wakin' up! Norwegian blues stun easily, Major."

7:30 p.m., Charleston Convention Center: The moment the polls close, the networks declare Clinton the winner of the West Virginia primary. ...the small group breaks into a chant: "It's not over."

Customer: "He's not pining! He's passed on! This parrot is no more! He has ceased to be! He's expired and gone to meet his maker! He's a stiff! Bereft of life, he rests in peace! . . . His metabolic processes are now history! He's off the twig! He's kicked the bucket, he's shuffled off his mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleeding choir invisible! This is an ex-parrot!"

9:06 p.m., still in the Convention Center: The announcer has just introduced "the next president of the United States." ...the crowd -- now up to 500, all but about 10 of them white -- is rapturous as Clinton rebukes the "pundits and the naysayers... There are some who wanted to cut this race short! I am more determined than ever to carry on this campaign," she says. ... The sound system emits a loud screech of feedback. The confetti cannons fire.

See? She wasn't dead; she was just pining for the fiords.

131,245 Personhood Signatures Submitted

* 76,000 Required Surpassed by 55,000: It's historic! For the first time in any state, in forty years, Kristi Burton of Colorado for Equal Rights delivered dozens of boxes of notarized signatures to the Colorado Secretary of State to get on the statewide November ballot to protect unborn children! A dozen reporters attending including from Denver's TV stations 4, 7, 9 and 31, and print journalists from the Colorado Statesman, Associated Press, Denver Post, and the Rocky Mountain News.

* Colorado Officials Present: included Scott Renfro, Kevin Lundberg, Kent Lambert and Dave Schultheis, and Ted Harvey circulated a petition himself and turned in dozens of signatures! A number of Planned Parenthood staffers came to the event and clapped with the crowd in hopes of blending in, and when two more showed up a bit late, Bob Enyart said to them, "the Planned Parenthood section is in the back, on the left." Pro-life heroes like Audrey Dobson, Andrea Jaracz, Annie Gillespie, Lolita Hanks, Susan Sutherland, Jennifer Mason, Deborah Burton, Leslie Hanks, and so many more were there to celebrate and commit themselves to educating people about the truth! Mark Hotaling of the Christian Coalition of Colorado, a great, principled Christian ministry, was wonderfully encouraging as were Keith Mason, Cal Zastrow, Mike Burton, and so many others at the Victory Rally and press conference! A general theme was that we have to stop regulating abortion, as powerful pro-life speaker Lori Goebel declared, and stop supporting laws that end with, "and then you can kill the baby," and commit ourselves to upholding the God-given right to life!

Tomorrow is the deadline for personhood, get your signatures in!

* Victory Rally and Signature Turn In: You are invited! May 13th is the big day! Colorado for Equal Rights will be having a victory rally and a press conference starting at 12 noon on the 13th at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 1555 Grant Street in Denver! Campaign Staff will be there at 11 a.m. to process any last minute petitions that come in. Parking is $8 for the day at the hall or there are parking meters nearby. CER will deliver the petitions at 2 p.m. so this will be the absolute last chance to turn in signatures. "Come join the celebration, and march with us to the Secretary of State's office to turn in these petitions. You earned it!" said campaign coordinator Keith Mason. For more info call 719 749-2164.

Priest's victim: suicide

*Bob On the Streets for Two Weeks: Colorado for Equal Rights has only two weeks till their May 13th deadline to get the rest of those 76,000 signatures they need! So Bob is asking, "Now that the final stretch is upon us, if you are a resident of Colorado, PLEASE help. Ideas:

* Get a blank petition at a distribution point (in Arvada, Aurora, Colo Spgs, Denver, Durango, Firestone, Grand Junction, Lafayette, Loveland, Pueblo, Westcliff, and Wheat Ridge) or call Colo RTL at 303 753-9394, and get five, ten or fifty names on it, quick!
* Come out to meet Bob at daily signature event and sign a personhood petition!
* Over the next two weeks, when you see where Bob will be petitioning, either come out and join him, or go to a similar location near you, on your work lunch hour, after work, on the weekend, at a Rockies ball game, whenever or wherever you can!
* Ask another person to help you get a petition and signatures!
* Ask your church if we can gather signatures on Sunday morning and call Colo RTL and we'll arrange for volutneers to be there!
